In the heart of south Germany between Munich and Salzburg lies one of Germany’s top holiday destinations, Chiemsee-Alpenland. The area, which covers over 1500 square kilometres attracts not only sport and health enthusiasts but also families, art lovers and congress and conference guests. The region’s best known sightseeing attraction is the Herrenchiemsee Palace on the Herreninsel. Built by King Ludwig II and modelled on Versailles it boasts magnificent baroque wall paintings. 2011 marks the 125th anniversary of Ludwig’s mysterious death. To commemorate the occasion a national exhibition will be presented in the Herrenchiemsee Palace, honouring the life and works of the „Fairytale King". The Fraueninsel, a traffic free gem in the Chiemsee, is particularly charming. Known as „Painter’s island“, it is one of Europe’s oldest artist colonies, with approximately 300 inhabitants. The four cities in the area Rosenheim, Wasserburg, Bad Aibling and Kolbermoor offer not only a broad programme of cultural and social events but also a unique mix of alpine tradition and the Mediterranean way of life. The abundance of diverse sporting activities in the unspoilt and breathtaking natural surroundings of the Chiemsee-Alpenland delights even the most avid sportsperson all year round. Hundreds of trekking and cycle paths with varying degrees of difficulty traverse the upper Bavarian lake and mountain landscape. Alpine terrain and isolated forest paths are hugely popular with mountain bikers. Climbers are spoilt for choice with over 1000 routes at all levels of difficulty. The four ski resorts – Hocheck with Germany’s longest floodlit ski slope, Wendelstein with challenging slopes in a high-alpine environment, the Kampenwand ski resort with purely natural snow and the extensive ski resort Sudelfeld – cater for every winter sport taste. For sailors, surfers and water-skiers the Chiemsee-Alpenland is a veritable water sport paradise with around 30 lakes and rivers. Raft and boat trips are also immensely popular. Chiemsee is the largest lake in the area and Germany’s third largest lake, covering 82 square kilometres and offering numerous easily accessible bathing beaches. The majority of the lakes and rivers originate from melted ice from the Chiemsee and Inn glaciers. It is not without reason that the Chiemsee-Alpenland has the distinction of being a health and wellness region; The relaxing mountain and lake air as well as the rich abundance of natural remedies such as moorland, sulphuric thermal waters, iodine thermal saline and Kneipp treatment remedies combine to make this a relaxing and healing location. The proof is in the nine accredited health resorts, six climatic health resorts, three therapeutic baths and a Kneipp treatment location. With more than 35 clinics and a total of 5500 beds the Chiemsee-Alpenland has the highest density of clinics in Europe and a comprehensive spectrum of rehabilitation and therapy treatments. Beauty farms, thermal springs and baths provide guests with relaxation and beauty treatments as well as sport and fitness courses for well being and regeneration.

Vacation house Bernau am Chiemsee
Location
The vacation house "Fembacher Hof" is located at the outskirts of Bernau am Chiemsee, directly in front of the German Alpes "Kampenwand". The Vacation home is in a quiet location of the center of Bernau am Chiemsee. Nearby it takes 1-2 minutes (walking) to find a supermarket, a bakerie, a butcheri and serveral restaurants.
The Cottage is located about 3 km from Lake Chiemsee, the bavarian sea. Chiemsee (German pronunciation: [ˈkiːmzeː]) is a freshwater
lake in Bavaria,
Germany,
in the south of Munich, between Rosenheim, Germany, and Salzburg,
Austria. The region around the Chiemsee is Chiemgau
and is a famous recreation area.
You reach the Island Herrenchiemsee and Frauenchiemsee from the port Bernau. For the last 160 years the Chiemsee-Schifffahrt has been connecting people to and from the islands of Lake Chiemsee. The first Steam-boat was built out of wood and to the 15 modern, well equipped and luxurious ships that make the crossing today, it is incomparable. People still remember from earlier times the famous "Ludwig Feßler", the flagship of the fleet. With the capacity of the ships combined, there are now a total of 4,000 seats available for guests. There are numerous ferries that make the frequent trip to the islands and also a range of more luxurious ships complete with sun-decks for a splendid cruise of the lake.
